Colonie police have released the identity of the pedestrian who lost his life after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening along Central Avenue. Authorities confirmed the victim as 77-year-old Cornelius Morrison of Albany, whose death has prompted an ongoing traffic investigation.
According to the Colonie Police Department, the collision occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. near the 1100 block of Central Avenue. Emergency crews responded to the scene, where Morrison was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigators say the driver involved remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with police. Officials emphasized that there is no indication the driver was impaired, and at this time, no charges have been filed or are anticipated.
The incident led to a temporary shutdown of Central Avenue between Osborne Road and Kraft Avenue, causing traffic delays for several hours. The roadway was eventually reopened at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
