Eduardo P. Rodriguez Identified as Victim in Imeca Lumber Homicide; Suspect Named After Shootout With Police

Authorities have released new details in the investigation surrounding a deadly incident at the Imeca Lumber business that escalated into an officer-involved shooting. Detectives confirmed that the victim found inside the business has been identified as Eduardo P. Rodriguez, a 23-year-old man born on April 22, 2002.

According to investigators, Rodriguez was killed during a violent encounter that later led to a gun battle between the suspect and officers from the Gainesville Police Department (GPD). The suspect has been identified as Justin D. Long, 31, born October 25, 1994.

Law enforcement officials said Long allegedly shot Rodriguez before confronting responding officers. During the confrontation, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and police, bringing the incident to a dangerous and rapidly unfolding conclusion. Details regarding injuries sustained during the officer-involved shooting have not yet been fully released.

The case remains under active investigation as detectives continue to piece together the sequence of events that led to the homicide and subsequent shootout. Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive or whether the individuals were known to each other.
